Axel Larsson

1898 — 1975

Axel Larsson was a leading Swedish designer in the mid-20th century. In 1916 – 1920  he studied at the Högre Konstindustriell Skolan School of Art and Industry. During training, he worked under the guidance of the legendary Karl Malmsten on furniture for the Stockholm City Hall. Since 1925 – employee of the factory SMF-Bodafors (Svenska Möbelfabrikerna i Bodafors, a Swedish furniture factory in Bodafors), one of the largest furniture manufacturers in Sweden. In the early 1930s, after Larsson’s furniture was a success at the Stockholm Decorative Arts Exhibition in 1930, he became the chief artist of this factory. Larsson designed both mass-produced furniture and the unique furnishings of public interiors at SMF-Bodafors. In 1956, Axel Larsson resigned and founded an independent design bureau. Since that time, several Swedish factories produced furniture for his designs.
